Couple of busy weeks here so just a few notes.
First in the last note I sent the link kicked off many peoples
security alerts. I assure you that the link was safe and nobody
contracted anything harmful or otherwise. Thanks to Norman and
a couple of other helpful subscribers we were able to patch up
the situation.
The site I linked to was about a book my friend wrote. The
headline described me and something I did without using my
name. And yes the headline is true and yes I will share with
you how I did what I did.

The past few days have seen a widespread ransomware attack
that demanded a ransom to remove the malware. Looking around
I found a pretty good article at Wired about the large
malware attack. The article is a bit technical but if these
things interest you click here to read the article.
I had a relative that ran into a similar situation only
there wasn’t any actual malware. In a nutshell my relative
had a message popup saying his computer was infected and to
call a phone number for help cleaning it up. When he called
they quickly moved to trying sell him something. Sensing
something was amiss he got off the phone and called me.
The same thing happened to me a few days before and the
warning kept appearing. Turns out the warning was really an
advertisement that popped up with the message. This ad was
just especially persistent.
The fix for me was to reboot the computer. I recommended my
relative do the same. This worked for both of us and the ad
did not reappear.
If you see a similar message try the reboot fix first. If
this is a legitimate message from your security software you
will see it again and try from there. Hope that helps
